At an altitude of 2300m, Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe and many experienced skiers believe it to offer the very best in long-season and snow-sure skiing. As a modern resort, it's convenient accommodation has much "piste-to-porch" skiing, and the main bowl is orientated for the maximum hours of sunshine. In France it certainly enjoys an unrivalled snow record, largely because of its altitude, and also the fastidious maintenance work of the piste patrols. The resort can cater for all levels of skiers, and the advanced will enjoy some exceptional "steep and deep" and challenging coliours. The après-ski here is in complete contrast to its sophisticated 3 Valley neighbours, and many the relaxed, laid back atmosphere of the bars and cafes. Good old-fashioned beer-swilling and lively dancing are in abundance.
